Land Acknowledgements and other resources
Land Acknowledgement:
The Walla Walla County Rural Library District gratefully acknowledges the Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral land we gather on, as well as the rich and dynamic communities who make their home here today. The WWCRLD would like to acknowledge that we stand upon the ancestral land of the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla as well as the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, including the Chief Joseph Nez Perce and Palus bands. We honor the stewardship, care, and continuous presence of the Native Peoples of this land. We acknowledge that our presence as an institution on colonized lands has contributed to inequality and the loss of Indigenous lifeways. The library’s acknowledgement is intended to recognize the Indigenous Peoples who have lived where we now reside since the beginning of time and the native communities that currently reside in the Walla Walla County area today. Celebrate with us the inherent sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples. We invite others to continue to learn from and support these nations and their efforts. The WWCRLD aligns itself with Land Back and other Indigenous-led movements to foster the healing of a community that is so deeply integral and important to the land that we stand upon. We hope that this statement is the beginning of a reciprocal and continuous relationship with local Indigenous nations and peoples and demonstrates a dedication to honoring a people that is very alive, vibrant, and here.
Branch-specific acknowledgements can be found on each branch's home page.
